St. Georges Day bike ride:)

Day 31 (lock down)

Thursday 23rd April - bike ***** - Felixstowe to Waldringfield – Sunny.

We have had a break from the bikes as a bit on the breezy side but still got out walking but with the wind easing and the lovely spring sunshine still here it was time to head out cycling again:) We planed to do a longer trip today taking our sandwich to Waldringfield so we were not in a hurry to leave so I did my back exercises in the garden first and it was very warm too! With lunch packed and a flask made we left home at 11 and decided to take the road way first while returning along the River Deben. We don’t like cycling on the roads even if they are particularly quiet at the moment so take our favourite tree lined route past Trimley towards Levington with blossom everywhere and soon spotted two hare and the herd of deer in the distance always pleasing to see! We have to wait at a level crossing for a container train to pass before crossing the A 14 and out onto the Kirton Road and soon discovered this must be the most popular cycle route in Suffolk! We see two buzzards near an asparagus field and there were a few vegetable stalls doing a good trade despite the lock down! We stop at The Fox at Newbourne to look at the fish in the pond and a lady tells us that they have lost several to an Otter! It makes a change for use to be on the country lanes and see the large variety of crops being grown. As we approach Waldringfield we stop at the nice church with a fantastic pink blossom tree in the grave yard which made a great picture! Then down to the River Deben and to be honest it was hard to believe we are in the middle of this terrible virus, two open water swimmers headed out, followed by a laser dinghy making the most of the breeze on the river as well as several yachts sailing with a canoe further up plus dog walkers and cyclists making the most of the unseasonably warm weather. To be honest I can’t see a problem with people getting on with their lives especially when you are social distancing too as the activities are done away from the crowds and pose no danger to anyone, lets hope we can get out windsurfing again very soon! We find a quiet spot just past the sailing club for our sandwich and watch the world go by with some cool clouds in the sky too:) Refreshed we head inland a bit and follow the footpath through farmland including an impressive vibrant yellow rape field coming out at Hemley Church. Then down to Kirton Creek stopping opposite Ramsholt Arms for a cuppa and our cake enjoying the warm sunshine with no one in sight! There are a few more people about as we get closer to Felixstowe but most people give each other as much room as possible on the footpath. At Felixstowe Ferry we ride back along the sea wall to The Dip and home. So another great bike ride making the most of all the best that Suffolk has to offer, we are indeed very lucky to be living in such a safe county:)
